Born of Fiber, Not Factory
This tiny alpaca is intended to symbolize the importance of sustainability in a world of mass production. The artist invites the audience to think about where their every-day products come from, and upon further reflection hopefully make more sustainable decisions.
This piece uses a combination of knit and crochet of 100% locally farmed alpaca fiber. The simplicity and composition of the material contrasts synthetic fibers like polyester and plastic that end up in landfills. Contrary to the slowness and intention while creating this piece, mass production is unsustainable and unethical. This miniature 4 inch alpaca may be tiny, but it represents a much larger meaning regarding environmental justice. Its small size draws attention to detail while also symbolizing how small decisions—by both makers and consumers—can contribute to a more sustainable future.
