Thermal Tapestry: Hidden Motion in Heat
Because beneath seemingly calm surfaces, invisible thermal currents constantly shape performance, safety, and energy use in modern technology. This image reveals that hidden world in vivid color.
This image visualizes localized heat transfer on a microscale boiling surface using high-resolution infrared thermography integrated with heat-transfer simulation. Regions of high heat transfer appear in reds, while lower heat-transfer zones appear in blues, revealing how flow boiling redistributes cooling across a heated substrate. Greater heat transfer indicates more effective cooling. By mapping these spatial variations, the work advances understanding of heat and mass transfer physics in microchannel flow boiling. Such insights support improved thermal management technologies, including data-center cooling, high-power electronics cooling, and battery thermal management systems.
