NEW Art of Science Workshop - Learn how to communicate your science -Application Required
Objective: As researchers in training, most of our training is centered around the science we do, and we rarely receive guidance on how to translate this back to the public and in a visually receptive way. Being able to connect with the broader community and engage and inspire the next generation of scientists must include making our science understandable to these audiences. The goal of this workshop is to (1) prepare you for submission to the Art of Science, and (2) gain skills in public science communication through art. At the end of this series of workshops, you will receive a certificate in visual science communication.
Audience: Graduate students and postdocs in research laboratories (preferred) and undergraduates in research laboratories. Students DO NOT need to be artistically inclined to attend. Limited to 20 attendees, will be held annually prior to the Art of Science competition.
Deliverables: Enrolled students must bring (1) a graph of any data they have, (2) any scientific image they have taken, and (3) have thought about the scientific topic they want to communicate. Each session will include lectures, activities, and hands-on feedback. Students must attend 3 required workshops to receive a certificate. Attendance is free and will include beverages and snacks. The last workshop is optional and will include a time for more feedback and to create art with various media provided.
Schedule is below and in the attached flyer; all meeting times are Wednesdays from 4-5 PM in Bioengineering Building 3001.
- Jan 7: Importance of Art of Science and transforming your science into a stunning image
